Northern Subtlety

Well, I’m back with another truncated battle report. I’ve been working on this table for the better part of 6 months in drips and drabs, and I’m pretty happy with it!

I’ve got a pile of MDF buildings and some 3D printed ones that I still need to assemble and prime, but it’s clear that the table is going to work, and the super desaturated paint scheme I’m working on will look just fine once I finish doing all the detailing.

I’m playing new Caprice with all the egg mechs and actually no walkers. I kinda wanted to take the new Anab with the CBS LFG, but it was a bit too expensive to pack in with all the other stuff that I wanted, like the Shadow of Gomorrah!

I decided to be really cheeky and pack a bunch of Automaton Clearance Teams into Anakites and then grouped a Raven with a pile of Morgana FLAIL and a REcon team.

We’re playing Prisoner Transfer, so in deference to that, I’m packing a pair of Sarru with railguns. Because railguns.

Adam’s playing his North. Which means precise+ snubcannons everywhere, and some stabby/beatstick Jaguars. Gross.

Since we’re playing Prisoner Transfer, I ended up just putting both Brawl: 2 Sarru in base contact with the prisoner, and it basically stayed there the whole game. Adam stacked up his FS squad in the back with the SK squad near my stuff… then put his SO squad basically in the open. Both of us chose Assassinate. He picked the Shadow and the Sarru CGL, and I picked the Command Jaguar and the Black Cat. I took Hold and he took Pave the Way.

The game basically was me using my Raven to haywire everything, stabbing stuff with the Morgana FLAIL, and blapping stuff with the linked LATM and LRG from the Sarru…

While desperately trying to keep away from the advancing Mammoth which was just deleting buildings with its snub cannons.

All in all, the FLAIL did a great job at keeping Adam tied up–he has to deal with them or he’s in trouble and I’ll backstab him, but that’s tying up activations he’s not using to take out the Sarru who are keeping the Prisoner tied up.

The real stars of the show were the clearance teams though. After Adam snub cannoned my Anakite off the table, the clearance teams hopped out, and two-shot the Nemesis Jaguar and crippled the Jaguar MP CGL. They also took out the Assault Hunter and Assault Jaguar later in the game. Really really powerful. This ended up being Adam being a little aggressive with his deployment and then me having enough threat saturation to make things difficult for me. Also Infantry in buildings is a pain.

Sarru railguns are probably slighlty under-costed? And the clearance teams in Anakites are HILARIOUS. The real MVP of course was the Mammoth, the sole survivor of Adam’s forces, who just stomped its way forward blasting away with its snub cannons. Honestly, I don’t really have a problem with ECM+ anymore… because you can just stab the squishy ECM+ carrier and you’re good to go. Enjoyed the hell out of this game and the table is really coming together!
